Jules alternatives

Updated

Google's Jules runs sessions until November 11, 2026 and winds down December 31. Six Jules alternatives for async coding tasks (Prized, Claude Code cloud sessions, Codex Cloud, GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Devin), with when each fits, from the vendors' own pages, checked October 29, 2026.

Jules runs sessions until November 11, 2026, then turns read-only and winds down on December 31 (Google's notice). Google says it is working on bringing what it learned, remote background tasks included, into Google Antigravity (Jules on X); Antigravity's pages today describe agents that run on machines you provide. Export your Jules data first (Moving from Jules, step 1), then pick where the tasks go.

Pick one

  • Claude Code or Codex on a cloud machine of your own: Prized. A box is a Linux VM that keeps its disk, so what a setup script installs stays for the next task. Hand the agent a task from a browser tab or with prized prompt, close the tab, and it opens the pull request. For scheduled tasks, cron on a box kept awake, or a scheduler that wakes it through the API. It clones from any git host (Moving from Jules).
  • Anthropic's VM per task, on your Claude plan: Claude Code cloud sessions. Start from claude.ai/code, the Claude app or claude --cloud; scheduled tasks can fire when an issue is labeled. GitHub only for pushing back.
  • OpenAI's VM per task, on your ChatGPT plan: Codex Cloud. Codex drafts the environment's install script itself. GitHub only, and you open the pull request.
  • Assign the issue and get a draft pull request: GitHub Copilot's cloud agent. The closest thing to labeling an issue for Jules, on a paid Copilot plan. GitHub only.
  • The most git hosts: Cursor Cloud Agents. GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps, with tasks started from the web, Slack, Linear, @cursor comments or an API. To run their commands on your box instead of Cursor's VMs: Cursor Cloud Agents on Prized.
  • Tickets handed over from Slack, Linear or Jira, on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket: Devin. A VM per session from a saved snapshot.

Prized bills the box: a Small (4 vCPU, 16 GB) is $0.137 an hour awake, $1.37 for a 10 hour run overnight, and only its disk while it sleeps (Billing). Several agents can work on one box at once (Parallel agents). The agent still draws on your Claude or ChatGPT plan's usage limits; Claude Code cloud sessions add no charge for their VM, and Codex Cloud tasks draw on the same ChatGPT plan allowance.

Moving to Prized

  1. Export from Jules now: Google's export saves your setup scripts, environment variables, memories, scheduled tasks and sessions (Moving from Jules).
  2. Get a box: sign up; the tour starts one on $30 of free credit, with no card, and opens Claude Code in your browser (Quickstart).
  3. Hand over the first task: clone the repo, run its setup script once, and ask for the change and a pull request (Moving from Jules, step 4).

Common questions

What is the best Jules alternative?

To keep assigning GitHub issues and getting pull requests back: GitHub Copilot's cloud agent. For your own Claude Code or Codex on a machine that keeps what it installed, with any git host: Prized. For a hosted VM per task on a plan you already pay for: Claude Code cloud sessions or Codex Cloud.

When does Jules shut down?

Jules runs sessions until November 11, 2026. After that it is read-only, and it winds down on December 31, 2026. Your code, branches and pull requests stay in GitHub.

Can I take my setup scripts and environment variables with me?

Yes, through Google's export with Jules Tools: it writes them to a local folder with your memories, scheduled tasks and every session. Then set each part up where you land: on a box, run the setup script once, put the variables on the box's Settings tab, and the memories in a CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md (Moving from Jules).

Which alternatives run scheduled tasks?

Claude Code cloud sessions, GitHub Copilot's cloud agent, Cursor and Devin schedule tasks on their own clouds. On Prized, cron on a box kept awake, or a scheduler that wakes the box through the API, runs Claude Code on a schedule (Run Claude Code on a schedule). OpenAI documents scheduled tasks for Codex but not inside its cloud environments.

Which alternatives work with GitLab or Bitbucket?

Prized, Cursor Cloud Agents and Devin. Claude Code cloud sessions can take a GitLab or Bitbucket repository as an upload but can't push back to it, and Codex Cloud and Copilot are GitHub only.
