Infinite storage is here

We wanted boxes that never run out of space. Infinite storage keeps a box’s files in S3, so the space grows as you write, up to 40 TB on an Extra Large. The files you’re working on stay cached on the box. We tested installs, builds and Docker against a normal disk and couldn’t tell the difference.

How much fits

With infinite storage, each size holds twenty times its own disk. Extra Small is the smallest size that offers it.

How fast it is

Infinite storage runs on Keep, a block store we wrote. Keep uploads what the box writes to S3 and fetches back whatever the cache doesn't have.

We ran the same work on identical boxes: Prized against the box's normal disk and four stores that keep files over the network. Prized matched the normal disk. The network stores took 6 to 700 times as long on these tasks.

Each store on its own identical m6a.xlarge box (4 vCPUs, 16 GiB) in US West (Oregon), from the box image Prized launches, on November 2, 2026. Each value is the median of three runs of the command's wall-clock time. Prized: infinite storage as it ships. EBS: a Small's normal disk, gp3, 300 GiB at 3,000 IOPS and 125 MiB/s. EFS: General Purpose with Elastic throughput, the defaults. JuiceFS 1.4.2 with SQLite metadata. Archil 0.10.1. Mountpoint for S3 1.24.0 failed tar, git and pnpm, and Docker would not start on it. The tasks: tar xf of linux-6.12 (92,438 entries); git checkout of Kubernetes from v1.20.0 to v1.31.0 (31,846 files differ); pnpm install --offline from a warm store (a Next.js app, 2,352 packages); docker build of redis 7.4.2 on gcc:14 (Docker 29.9.2). EFS couldn't pull the image; JuiceFS and Archil pulled it, and the build failed.

The same boxes and versions, Mountpoint for S3 1.24.0 included. grep -r over the linux-6.12 tree, the first read of it: Prized on a new box restored from its store in S3, with an empty cache; EBS on a new gp3 volume made from a snapshot, which is what a normal box restored from a snapshot reads; EFS, JuiceFS, Mountpoint and Archil unmounted, their local caches emptied, and mounted again (Archil's own servers keep a cache no user can empty). JuiceFS and Mountpoint were stopped at one hour. Medians of three runs.

Two identical Small boxes (m6a.xlarge: 4 vCPUs, 16 GB) in US West (Oregon), run side by side on October 29, 2026: Prized's store as built that day, and ZeroFS 2.3.5 with the small proxy we ran in front of it. Each value is the median of five runs. Uploads: 8 GiB written, timed until S3 held all of it. Reads: random 4 KiB reads, 16 at a time, of data only S3 held, with nothing cached on the box. CPU and memory: the storage's own, over a scripted run of tar, git, grep, cp, SQLite, fio and Docker; memory at its peak.

What it costs

The box costs its size's usual price, and that price includes the size's disk. Past that disk, what the files take up in storage costs $0.05 a GB-month, awake or asleep. Prized measures it after compression.

Prized: $0.05 a GB-month for what a box's files take up past the disk its size includes, measured after compression. EBS gp3 and EFS Standard: the storage price alone, in US West (Oregon); EBS bills a volume's full size, whatever it holds. GitHub Codespaces: its storage price. Each is a GB-month price times 1,000, from the pricing pages as of 2026-11-02.

Create one

Ask for infinite storage when you create a box:

prized box new mango --size Small --storage infinite

On the dashboard, pick Infinite storage on the New box form.

A box created without it keeps its files on its own disk. The box page shows Storage: Infinite and how much space its files take up.

What lives on it

Your home directory, /srv and Docker live on infinite storage. Everything else, like /tmp and apt packages, stays on the box's system disk.

Where it is offered

On a fresh box of Extra Small and up, in all five regions: US West (Oregon), US West (N. California), US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio) and Europe (Frankfurt). Each box's files stay in its own region.
