# Sign up from your terminal

> One ssh command signs you up, starts a box on the free credit, and ends with one command that sets up your laptop.

## Start [#start]

Nothing to install first: macOS, Linux and Windows 10 or later all ship `ssh`. The first time, ssh asks you to confirm the host; the fingerprint is `SHA256:obSQ9e1wBADEVz58mOOOeXL79ymZcC0tBGLph1CS0I8`, then type `yes`.

## What it asks [#what-it-asks]

| Your box       | **Automatic** starts the biggest box the free credit runs (a Small: 4 vCPU, 16 GB, about nine days), or hands over the box you already have. **Manual** lists every size and how long your credit runs it.           |
| Where you work | Claude desktop, the ChatGPT app, Cursor, or the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor Agent, or a plain shell).                                                                                                       |
| Your laptop    | The last screen shows one command, copied to your clipboard where your terminal allows it. Leave the session and paste it.                                                                                           |

> Only connect a terminal you started yourself, just now: the page shows the account and workspace it joins, when it started, and the address and SSH client it came from. A sign-in link someone else sends you would connect their terminal to your account, so select **This wasn't me** instead.

## The command [#the-command]

It installs the CLI, signs it in without a second browser trip, and connects your box. Then it asks which folder to sync: the folder you ran it in, your recent git checkouts, or a new empty project. Automatic brings your tools and packages without more questions and asks before it copies anything secret: `.env` files, API keys, or your agent's sign-in. Manual asks about each part, as [`prized setup`](https://prized.dev/docs/quickstart#4-set-up) does. Last, it sets up where you work:

| ChatGPT app    | Codex is signed in on the box and your synced folder is added to the app as a remote project; the app picks it up without a restart.                     |
| Cursor         | Cursor opens your synced folder on the box over Remote-SSH.                                                                                              |
| Terminal       | Your agent starts in a tmux session on the box and the command ends inside it; it keeps running when you close the laptop.                               |

Setting up an app for you needs macOS and the app installed; otherwise the command ends with the steps to add your box by hand. If it stops after connecting your box and prints a `prized setup` line instead, see [Troubleshooting](#troubleshooting).

The command works once, for 15 minutes. On Windows it is a PowerShell line. Nothing about your box is lost if you skip it: install the CLI from the [quickstart](https://prized.dev/docs/quickstart#2-install-the-cli) any time.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

* **ssh times out or is refused.** Some networks block outbound SSH. Sign up at [prized.dev](https://prized.dev/sign-in) instead and follow the [quickstart](https://prized.dev/docs/quickstart).
* **"The sign-in link expired."** Links last 15 minutes. Run `ssh ssh.prized.dev` again; an account you already made is simply signed in again.
* **"Too many tries."** The page stops taking codes after a run of wrong or expired ones. Wait a few minutes, then run `ssh ssh.prized.dev` again for a new code.
* **The install command says the link expired.** It was used, or it is more than 15 minutes old. Run `ssh ssh.prized.dev` again for a new one; the dashboard's install command signs the CLI in too, but without the choices you made here.
* **The command ends with a `prized setup` line.** Run the whole line, as printed, in the folder you want to sync. With `--signup` and its ID, it finishes the steps above; plain `prized setup` syncs the folder and signs your agent in on the box, and you add the box to your app by hand ([Claude desktop](https://prized.dev/docs/claude-desktop), [the ChatGPT app](https://prized.dev/docs/codex)).
* **Using ssh with a phone password.** The phone password is for the ChatGPT app's SSH form ([From your phone](https://prized.dev/docs/codex#from-your-phone)); from a computer, use `prized ssh`.
