# Moving from Jules

> Google's Jules runs sessions until November 11, 2026. Export your Jules data, then hand Claude Code or Codex a task on a Prized box from your browser, close the tab, and get a pull request back.

Jules runs sessions until November 11, 2026, then turns read-only and winds down on December 31 ([Google's notice](https://jules.google/docs/changelog/2026-10-29)). Your code, branches, and pull requests stay in GitHub. On a Prized [box](https://prized.dev/docs/boxes), a cloud Linux machine that keeps its disk, Claude Code or Codex takes the task Jules took: you hand it over in a browser tab, it works with the tab closed, and it opens the pull request.

## 1. Export what lives only in Jules [#1-export-what-lives-only-in-jules]

Google's export saves your setup scripts, environment variables, memories, scheduled tasks, and every session. On your computer, install Jules Tools and sign in:

```bash
npm install -g @google/jules
```

```bash
jules login
```

Then start a CLI coding agent such as Claude Code in your home folder and paste the export prompt from [Google's notice](https://jules.google/docs/changelog/2026-10-29). It writes `~/jules-export`. Keep that folder out of your repos: `env-variables.json` holds your values.

## 2. Get a box [#2-get-a-box]

[Sign up](https://prized.dev/sign-in): the tour starts a box on $30 of free credit with no card. **Start in your browser** on the tour's install step opens the box's terminal with Claude Code started, so there is nothing to install ([Quickstart](https://prized.dev/docs/quickstart)).

## 3. Connect GitHub and clone your repo [#3-connect-github-and-clone-your-repo]

Sign Claude Code in first, in the session the tour opened (a paid Claude plan or an Anthropic Console account): open the link it prints, then paste the code that page shows back. Then `/exit` leaves you at a shell. Sign the GitHub CLI in (it prints a code and a link to open), let git push with it, set your git name and email (commits fail without them), and clone:

```bash
gh auth login
```

```bash
gh auth setup-git
```

```bash
git config --global user.name "$(gh api user --jq '.name // .login')"
git config --global user.email "$(gh api user --jq '"\(.id)+\(.login)@users.noreply.github.com"')"
```

```bash
gh repo clone OWNER/REPO
```

Run your repo's Jules setup script once in the repo folder: paste it in, or upload it from the box page's **Files** tab ([Files](https://prized.dev/docs/dashboard#files)). The box keeps what it installs, and it is Ubuntu 24.04 with Docker, git, gh, and Python already on it. Node.js, Go, and Rust are not, so put their install at the top of the script ([Machines](https://prized.dev/docs/machines#preinstalled-software)).

## 4. Hand the agent a task [#4-hand-the-agent-a-task]

```bash
cd REPO && claude
```

Write the task the way you wrote it for Jules, and end with the pull request:

```text title="Prompt"
Bump next.js to v15 and move the project to the app directory. Run the tests, then push a branch and open a pull request with gh.
```

Recent versions of Claude Code start in auto mode, where a second model reviews each action instead of you; after repeated blocks it goes back to asking, and a question waits until you come back ([Permission modes](https://prized.dev/docs/keep-claude-code-running#3-permission-modes-for-a-run-you-leave-alone)). For Codex, run `codex login --device-auth` first (device code sign-in has to be on in ChatGPT's security settings), then `codex`, and run `/permissions` in it so it can push without asking ([Run Codex in the cloud](https://prized.dev/docs/run-codex-in-the-cloud#3-sandbox-and-approvals-before-you-leave-it)).

## 5. Close the tab [#5-close-the-tab]

The agent runs in tmux on the box, so closing the tab or the laptop ends only the connection. To check on it from any computer or phone, open the box on the [dashboard](https://prized.dev/dashboard) and pick **Claude Code** from the arrow beside **Open terminal**: it reopens the session the tour started, where your agent runs, Codex included.

On the free credit, a box pauses after 2 hours with nothing using it. An agent printing in its session counts as use, but a long wait for your answer can still pause it; set **Auto-pause** to **Off** on the box's page to keep it up, and it bills while idle ([Auto-pause](https://prized.dev/docs/boxes#auto-pause)).

## 6. Review the pull request [#6-review-the-pull-request]

The pull request opens on GitHub from your account. Ask for changes in the same session, and the agent pushes them to the same branch.

## What Jules did, on Prized [#what-jules-did-on-prized]

| In Jules | On Prized |
| --- | --- |
| Connecting a GitHub repo | `gh repo clone` on the box; to set up every new box the same way, an [environment](https://prized.dev/docs/environments) (CLI or API) that clones public repos and runs a setup script |
| A task in a cloud VM | A prompt to Claude Code or Codex on your box, which keeps its disk, installs, and branches between tasks |
| Setup script | Run once on the box; the box keeps what it installed |
| Environment variables | **Variables** on the box page's **Settings** tab, set before you start the agent; API keys as [Secrets](https://prized.dev/docs/credentials#secrets-for-agents) |
| Memories | A `CLAUDE.md` (Claude Code) or `AGENTS.md` (Codex) in the repo, read at the start of every session |
| Several tasks at once | One agent per tmux session on the same box ([Parallel agents](https://prized.dev/docs/parallel-agents)) |
| Scheduled tasks | Cron on the box, or a scheduler that wakes it through the API ([Run Claude Code on a schedule](https://prized.dev/docs/run-claude-code-on-a-schedule)) |
| Jules Tools and the API | `prized prompt` from your terminal or a script (below) |

## Hand off a task from your terminal [#hand-off-a-task-from-your-terminal]

With the [CLI](https://prized.dev/docs/cli) installed and your Claude Code sign-in, GitHub token, and git identity copied to the box (`prized agents handoff claude --gh`), one command starts a run on the box and returns:

```bash
prized prompt --provider claude --cwd REPO --auto --detach "fix the failing tests, then push a branch and open a pull request with gh"
```

`prized events --follow` follows it. `--auto` lets the agent run any command without asking, which pushing a branch needs ([Prompt an agent remotely](https://prized.dev/docs/remote-agents)).
